In Memory Of

Apostle David E. Lewis, Sr.
Founder and Bishop of
Apostolic House of Prayer Church

Apostle David E. Lewis, Sr. was a dedicated Shepherd and Servant of our Lord. He was a devoted husband and loving father. He was a great man of God and is now rejoicing with our Lord Jesus Christ.

Just weeks before he went home to be with the Lord, the Spirit was very high in our church services. One Sunday in particular during that period, the Bishop stood and announced that when he was no longer Pastor of the church, that Elder Kenneth E. Butler, Sr. would become Pastor. The Spirit was moving so strong during the following weeks that a few days after the Bishop became ill, and subsequently went home to be with the Lord, it became apparent to us that God was preparing us for our Shepherd’s departure from his earthly home and for his spirit to move to his new and permanent home in Heaven. During those weeks, THERE WAS AN AWESOME MOVE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT!

Apostle David E. Lewis, Sr. was the eldest son of the late Dolin and Beatrice Lewis. He was born on June 30, 1934 in Thomasville, North Carolina. He was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 26, 2002. He grew up in a Christian home. He was called to preach as a teenager. He did not want this profession.

He graduated as the Valedictorian of Church Street High School in Thomasville, North Carolina and he went directly to Bible College. Because he didn't want to preach, he left Bible College and joined the US Air Force. He served eight years honorably. Once again, God put the call to preach in his life.

After leaving the Air Force, he endeavored to follow CHRIST.

He moved to Maryland and married Margaret Ellen Parker on December 31, 1964. He was ordained an Elder on Sunday, January 8, 1967; ordained a Bishop on March 30, 1974; and ordained Apostle on October 13, 1996. His first Pastoral position was at House of Prayer Church in West River, Maryland.

He began this church in Millersville in August 1982 with he and his wife being the first two members. He was a member of the Anne Arundel County Farmer’s Market where the customers called him “Muffin Man.”

Bishop Lewis laid the foundation for a great ministry. He did a wonderful job of training several Elders, and because of God’s anointing on their lives, they are all working together with our new Pastor, Kenneth E. Butler, Sr., to carry on the Bishop’s mission. Because of God’s anointing they will do mighty work for Him.

We miss you “Muffin Man”!
